Physical Server Hosting

The client's server (physical machine) is hosted in Adept's data-center. This is usually done because the client wishes to keep full control over his/her server for the purposes of security, privacy and or high SLA. The client is responsible for all software, backups & configuration on the server (unless the client signs a maintenance contract, in which case Adept will do the agreed upon maintenance). Adept will provide a public routable network address range to the client, the number of IP's depends on the client's needs.

Setup fees: R850.00
Base cost per month from R695.00, this includes 5Gig network traffic and a single Usable IP Address.
Additional network traffic is charged at R0.09 per megabyte.

Virtual Server Hosting

The Virtual host is a software implementation of a machine (Wiki- Virtual Machine). This product is usually used by clients that need specific software (usually other than a normal webserver and/or mailserver) but who do not want to be burdened by hardware maintenance and cost of hosting a physical machine in the data-center.

The client's virtual machine will be located on our cluster (Wiki - Cluster Computing). Our cluster was designed for high availability and a very quick fail-over in case of severe hardware failure. Storage is on fiber channel SAN. We recommend the client still have a software backup strategy for critical information stored on the virtual host.

The client is responsible for maintenance on his/her operating system (i.e., updated anti-virus software and security patches for the operating system etc..).

Requirements

A valid operating system + license.
(Most of the modern operating systems can be used in a virtual host.)
Basic knowledge of OS maintenance.

A note on why /29 only has 5 usable IP's , a /29 network actually has 8 IP addresses in it however 1 IP is reserved for your network address, 1 IP is reserved for the gateway and 1 IP is reserved as the broadcast address the same for /27 and /28.
