Not feeling great? Meditate!

Are you finding yourself struggling to focus at certain times of the day? Is your brain too saturated with all the work and people that you are dealing with? There’s nothing as bad as knowing that you’ve got stuff to do, but it’s taking you twice as long because of your lack of concentration. Don’t worry, you are not alone in this boat cast out in a sea of chaos (and sometimes bad moods). The good news is that taking a few minutes and meditating could help you calm the storm and feel more like yourself once again.  The notion of meditation during the work day isn’t a new one, but it’s still a little foreign to some. However, when you consider that it is both easy and beneficial, then there’s nothing stopping you.

 

Meditation is a process

This means that you can easily break it down into a step-by-step task for yourself. This is good news if you’re process-driven. It’s even better news if you aren’t, since you’re now looking at a double learning experience. There is a plethora of resources to teach you how to meditate. There isn’t much to teach you to follow a process, however. This comes down to little else other than discipline and commitment. Once you’ve made the decision that you want to try, the only thing you need is a relaxed space.

 

You can meditate anywhere quiet

The beauty of meditation is that it requires very little in the form of resources. If you have a personal space that is free of interruptions, you should be fine. Proponents of meditation will tell you that you need not sit in your office chair. What’s more, as long as you’re comfortable, you should be able to manage it quite easily. Try to remember, though, that your quiet place also needs to remain undisturbed. You may only be meditating for 15 minutes, but that time needs to be uninterrupted in order to be effective. So make sure you have that time to yourself, in a place where no one will walk in on you.

What’s even better is that you need not restrict yourself to the office itself. There are seemingly other places nearby where you can take advantage of a few moments alone. Why not take a walk and sit outside on a grassy patch somewhere close to your office, or you could even try to sit in your car.

 

Why are you doing this again?

Meditation does not mean that you are a peace loving hippy or yoga fanatic. It is a helpful tool that can increase your focus, improve your mood, and heighten your productivity. Take your pick, or simply take them all.

The research showing the benefits of even simple meditative techniques goes back decades. We leave it to you to discuss the merits. Think about this, though. Is not taking a few minutes each day worth the potential loss of all those positive aspects?
